We are bringing Open Streets in Your Neighborhood to Ward 7’s Benning Road NE, closing 0.75 miles to cars, and opening it to people to ride, bike, walk, socialize, and participate in fun programming! No cars, just people.

Capital Bikeshare eBike Demonstrations

Try out an eBike on the route and learn how they ride when compared to a traditional bike.

Check out CaBi’s free swag and goodies!

Double Dutch

Join the talented Double Dutch group and jump with the pros in this classic Open Streets activity!

Double Dutch is a fun, easy, and lowkey way to experience the road in a whole new way.

Foamboree is BACK for another Open Streets event!

Whether you are a kid or a young adult, don’t miss this chance to run through the foam happening on Benning Road and 41st Street.

Youth Traffic Safety Town Hall Road Show

Located in front of the main stage, the Youth Traffic Safety Town Hall Road Show, put on by CDMA Business Model, will feature six creative stations for children to engage in.

 Including t-shirt making and creative arts. Two original songs will be performed on the main stage at 10:00 am.

Department of Parks and Recreation’s Kids Zone

Located near the main stage, kids are welcome to play in a number of fun outdoor play spaces.

Urban Forestry

You’re invited to visit DDOT’s Tools of the Trade, a collection of supplies needed for urban foresters to check on the health of a city tree.

Touch a mallet and listen to the sounds that different tree trunks make! Guided “tree walks” will also be provided at various times.

Sidewalk Quest

Kids are welcome to try out the chalked-out Sidewalk Quest, answer a couple of trivia questions, and receive some cool swag.

Hosted by DDOT’s Safe Routes to School program.

District Youth Cycling Club Bike Ramps

As seen on Ward 8’s Open Streets, kids are invited to grab their scooters or bicycles and try out some of the mini red ramps.

Semi-Truck Blind Spot Demonstration

This is a must-see demonstration that all kinds of road users should experience.

Learn about the dangers of blind spots around semi-trucks and how to stay safe on the street.

You may also get a chance to honk the truck’s horn!

Kimmiek Hoola Hoops

Get your groove on and try out some street hoola-hooping, as well as learn a few pointers from seasoned hoola-hoopers.

Stop by Glow by Asia to get free henna art.

Metro Washington Association of Blind Athletes

Learn how bicycling can be more inclusive by checking out MWABA’s tandem bike demonstrations at Benning and 45th Street.

WMATA Anti-Harassment Campaign

Learn more about how you can stay safe and report harassment-related incidents on any MetroRail line or MetroBus.

Our main activation zone is located at the corner of Benning Road and 42nd Street NE, where two local studios will be offering free fitness and yoga classes.

Bring your workout gear and yoga mat, and get ready to break a sweat!

Lime Scooters are back on Open Streets! Come by the Lime activation and learn how to ride one of the scooters, get a free popsicle, and pick up some amazing swag, like a Lime-branded helmet!

Scooter lessons will take place between 9 am – 1 pm between 41st and 42nd Streets.
